Human beings are made for music! Our musical education starts before we’re born, with several months’ experience of the nearly-but-not-quite regular beat of our mother’s heart.
The nursery songs we hear as children recall that heartbeat; but pattern, variation and repetition lie at the heart of every piece at every level.
Music theory is the study of these patterns and how we record them. I aim to make learning enjoyable, using computer games and tub games with children, and demonstrations and card-matching tasks for older and younger students alike.
I run special courses in grade 5 theory for instrumentalists.
